Donisl am Marienplatz
With the Donisl at Marienplatz, many locals divide their minds:"Is this still a typical Munich pub or is it rather a disgusting tourist magnet? The long tradition of the house would speak for itself - if it weren't for the dear visitors from all over the world, who dine here at the tables and don't always know how to behave - for example if they let pieces of decoration like the shotgun Hasi go along with them.
One can call Donisl - somewhat lofty - the cathedral of beer: The three-aisled dining room leads towards an altar-like raised spot in the central nave, behind which the decorated jugs of the regular guests are placed like relics in the rear wall. Seven types of beer are drawn from the barrel, the Edelhell even from the wooden barrel. Wines and schnapps all come from good producers.
The Donisl is highly praised for his revitalisation of the "Munich boiling kitchen": the pieces of beef suitable for boiling - shoulder, breast, boiled beef, mayor's chop and tongue - are boiled with root vegetables and served in the strong broth that is produced in this way in soup pots on a hot plate. It's not really cheap, but it is highly recommended.
