Flohmarkt Theresienwiese
The Theresienwiese flea market during the Spring Festival is a must-attend event for all antique and vintage enthusiasts. For 30 years, the Bavarian Red Cross has organized this giant flea market. Around 30,000 visitors browse and haggle under the watchful eye of the Bavaria statue at over 300 stalls, as was the case on April 18, 2026.
After an often sleepless night, which can still be quite chilly in April, the vendors peel themselves out of their sleeping bags, rub their eyes, and are allowed to open their stalls promptly at 7:00 a.m. Many have been at the Theresienwiese flea market since the day before, as the best spots can be secured starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
Under the dim light of headlamps, early risers are already rummaging and haggling before sunrise to secure the first treasures. Records, paintings, enamel signs, Grandma's winter coat, old dishes, designer pieces, and knick-knacks – true to the motto "One man's trash is another man's treasure" – what one person throws away is another's treasure, pretty much everything that has accumulated in cellars and attics over the years changes hands here.
But even at the Theresienwiese flea market, there are exceptions, which the organizer, the Bavarian Red Cross, clearly specifies: The following are prohibited:
New goods, large furniture, motor vehicles, including motor vehicle parts
Food, animals, plants
War toys
Literature and films that glorify violence or are pornographic
Goods of any kind that are sold on behalf of third parties or acquired for resale
Furthermore, the organizer points out that driving vehicles onto the flea market grounds, even for setting up stalls, is prohibited. Selling from a car is also not allowed. Likewise, the use of radios, record players, and loudspeakers is not permitted.
Political and religious stalls, as well as demonstrations, are prohibited.
In the market area, passageways and emergency exits must be kept clear. Stalls are not permitted on footpaths or in green spaces.
Buying and selling is allowed at the Theresienwiese flea market until 4:00 PM, after which visitors can relax at the Spring Festival.
