Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall)
The city government of Munich suffered from prolonged lack of space. Therefore, in the mid-19th Century decided to build a new town hall. The new town hall was 1867 - 1909 instead of 24 town houses built in 3 phases by Georg Hauberrisser in the Gothic Revival style. The oldest part is the brick building between Dienerstraße and Marienplatz. Later, the expansion wing was built of brick at the back. The building with its 85 m high tower city hall was built with limestone and tuff, and is thus distinguished externally well. The facade is decorated with statues of rulers of welfischem wittelsbachischem and gender. Zoom statue Luitpold This is the greatest ruler cycle in a German town hall. At the interface between the expansion and new construction is the equestrian statue of Prince Regent Luitpold, under whose rule the city hall came ist.Treppenturm grand courtyard in the town hall tower is seen daily (except Good Friday), the fifth-largest carillon (43 bells) in Europe. Features of the platform hall of the Town Hall tower affords extensive views over the city. Also worth seeing is the grand courtyard of the stair tower, the "ladder of the ages" is. The New Town Hall is the seat of the mayor of Munich, and three of the 80 city councilors.
