Propyläen - Köngisplatz

As a last resort, real neo-classical building in Munich, built by Leo Klenze 1846-62 at the Royal Palace this temple entrance modeled after the Propylaea on the Acropolis. Between two mighty towers, a 6säulige Doric pediment is visible. The pediment sculptures designed by Ludwig has Schwanthaler. They show a glorification of the Greek struggle for liberation. The Propylaea was designed as a monument to the Bavarian army, for the Greek struggle for freedom and zoom gable for the Wittelsbach King Otto of Greece. They are also considered a sign of friendship between Greece and Bavaria. Even the flags of both countries have the same colors (white and blue). On the walls of the main passage, the name of the Greek freedom fighters are engraved. Since 1928, the average passage for the traffic is blocked. The lanes were moved laterally.
