In the middle of the road between the commercial buildings Sendlinger is St. John Nepomuk Church Asam better known under the name of its founder.
In the years 1729 - 1733 bought E.Q. Asam - renowned architect and sculptor - four houses in the Sendlingerstrasse on. One was the private house, two were determined to build the church, the fourth was a priest in the house. Together with his brother Cosmas Damian - architect and painter - he wanted to his private church - regardless of beliefs and tastes of a client - build. Was able E.Q. Asam of his private house through a window to look closely at the high altar of the church. Although it costs for the building itself was, he had to make his church after a protest of the citizens to the public.
Whoever enters through the low, dark hallway inside the church, overwhelmed and confused at the same time, given the profusion of light, color and decoration, the mixture of wood and stone - which looks like a cave - the many gold and silver in this exceptionally high and wide acting space. The Asamkirche is one of the top performances of the Bavarian Baroque.
Because the main light through a window in the east facade is, should I visit the chapel in the early morning hours.
