Munich Cathedral (Frauenkirche) Church of our Lady Even today, dominating the Frauenkirche, the most modern buildings in the inner city and thus dominates Munich skyline. Its towers are visible from afar and an unmistakable landmark for Munich. Munich has got many sights, but the "round spiers" of the Church of Our Lady - also known as Gallic hood - a homely appearance with an almost magical attraction. In the heart of downtown, this Gothic structure stands gracefully in the 99 meters height. The history of this church is very old. Already in the 12th Century still found the city was at this point a small Marian chapel. In 1468, the real foundation for the Church of Our Lady of the architect Jörg von Halsenbach (called Ganghofer) down. The completion of the church in 1488 attracted crowds of pilgrims to Munich. Noteworthy, the number of apostles and prophets sculptures by Erasmus Grasser, the altarpieces by Jan Pollack, the painting "Assumption" by Peter Candid. The glass window in the chancel survived the war. They are among the 14. and 16. Century and made almost completely preserved. A window shows the Münchner Kindl. Impressively the twelve wooden reliefs by Ignatz Günther, who also designed the main entrance of the church. The cathedral contains the tombs of the Wittelsbach rulers (kings, emperors, dukes). Also impressive is the marble tomb of Emperor Louis IV the design of Hans Krumper.
